Spur Off Radial Circuit
Oh i was unaware of that i thought it had to follow the rule of no more spurs than number of outlets allready on the circuit by outlets i mean sockets fsu etc the only radial circuit exempt was lighting or so i thought thanks i dint.
Spur off radial circuit. The space in question is approx 6x7 metres. Clearly if this is called a spur one can spur from a spur which goes against years of teaching. Finding it difficult to understand how with a radial you can spur off spurs without overloading the cable. It s a radial circuit so technically it wouldn t be a spur.
There will be no lighting off this circuit. Regulations to bear in mind. You can add as many sockets as you want but you would have to stick with the same cable size i e. That is only one spur per socket is allowed and the number of spurs must not exceed the number of sockets.
This i would have called a radial. I would have considered this as a new radial circuit. Clearly a new circuit as has its own protective device. Fused spurs as many sockets as you want but remember the maximum 13a fuse in the spur.
Multiple spurs off a radial circuit could be a sign of poor design. In terms of where the spur can actually be taken from this can be directly from the socket itself or from the wiring running to a socket by using a junction box. So question is why is the cable from the fcu called a spur. I read in several threads on the topic of radial circuits not necessarily on this forum that although a 32a protected circuit has to be wired in 4mm cable spurs may be taken from a socket on the circuit and wired in 2 5mm cable.
Think ive got mor. A spur can be connected to an existing socket on either a ring main or a radial circuit providing that socket does not already have a spur. A radial circuit is a radial circuit and you take as many extensions from it as you want. Keep the number of spurs as low as possible.
Quite possibly another dull question from me myself or i or whatever the grammer police might say was doing a little investigation under the bathroom floor earlier and ive found a few spur on spurs on me socket radial circuit with god knows how many junction boxes. I can understand if you spur off a ring that piece of cable can take potentially 26amps two 13amp fuses. Spur taken off of radial circuit with multiple sockets using a fused unit. Does this all looks ok and is it ok to have two fused spurs off the one circuit.
How to wire a radial circuit. I ll install all the wiring and sockets myself then get an electrician in to check and connect up to the house fuse box. Using 1 5mm sq cable is acceptable after a fused spur but best practice is to keep with 2 5 mm sq.
